The left hand navigation is removed for demonstrating this component as a home page.

Usually used to build 'easy read' resources on content pages, the easy read component can be included on the homepage to achieve the same outcome. It can also be repurposed to overcome display issues with tables and as a promotional banner.

Overview

Make your written information easier to understand for everyone by:

  • using plain-language
  • using short sentences
  • giving the reader essential information on a topic

Pictures can also used to support the meaning of words.

Feature showcase

Blue border and background (default option)

This is our default easy read component.

The design is based on research by the UK Government.

We also designed this component with experts in Australia.

This included people with disability.

The easy read component is just one part of our Website Design System.

It combines with other parts to make a website.

Read our introduction to easy read at: www.accessibility.sa.gov.au.

White border and background (plain print ready version)

The default blue background is optional.

You control the colours.

Here white is applied to the border and background.

The result is our print ready easy read component.

Using this component for page layout

Using tables for page layout is bad for accessibility and mobile display. Our easy read component is assessed for accessibility and built mobile ready.

This means it is a great option for page layout instead of using a table.

Note larger than normal text display: for standard size text use the Two Column Content component.

We have a policy for making technology accessible. It is called the South Australian Government Online Accessibility Policy.

Everyone who works in the South Australian Government needs to use our policy.

You can use this area for text, links, apply headings, button links or even insert images.

For example

This is not a good example of easy read - the Government of South Australia is the Australian state democratic administrative authority of South Australia.

Read our introduction to easy read at: www.accessibility.sa.gov.au.
